CHEM-370 Bioinorganic Chemistry

An introduction to the structural and functional roles of metals in biological systems with an emphasis on metalloproteins and the active site structure of enzymes and catalytic reactions at metal centers. The course also covers medically relevant topics such as how organisms obtain metal ions from their environment; toxicity of metals such as lead and mercury; and use of platinum-based compounds in treating cancer.
