ENG-130 Illustrated Travel Journal

An introduction to the critical reading, creative composition, and photographic illustration of the travel journal. We will read both contemporary and classics of travel writing that use poetry, photos, historical analysis, narrative and description to engage readers in the experience of the journey and then evaluate the literary, artistic, and ethical value of these texts. Students will then consider differ-ent styles of writing and photography for describing their experience of another culture and its food, history, language, art, and space. During their time abroad, students will keep a journal detailing their experiences and incorporating photographs of their own, design and publish their journals using readily accessible web-based software. NOTE: This is a stud abroad course. The first part of the course takes place during the spring semester at Felician College; the se-cond part takes place during late spring or summer. ENG 201-202
