NURS-104 Academic Excellence
provides an introductory experience to how application of critical reading and critical thinking leads to clinical reasoning and clinical judgment, the 21st Century skill necessary for academic success and retention in the Baccalaureate pre-licensure Nursing Program and beyond. The course is grounded in the framework of conceptual thinking, evidence-based practice, mastery learning, and systems thinking in the context of nursing. Strategies for analyzing information, communicating effectively, problem solving, promoting inquiry, reading w/ purpose, making connections and writing w/ clarity will be taught through direct instruction and ongoing opportunities for demonstration of proficiency. This course offers an overveiw of the new APA 7th edition to support students with the expected writing demands of the prelicensure nursing program and improves student learning outcomes by helping learners make quality decisions founded on evaluaton of current and relevant research. The concepts covered in the course aim to bolster student abilities to succeed in future nursing courses and begin to prepare for the new requirements of standardized assessments like the Next Generation NCLEX exam.
