OT-601 Lifespan for Geriatrics

This course explores development, typical aging, and disabilities that impair participation in the occupations of geriatric adults. Students are introduced to geriatric adult developmental roles and the etiology, symptoms, and prognosis of disorders and their impact on occupational

performance areas and components. In the laboratory component, students learn the evaluation and treatment of geriatric clients. Students learn how to provide remediation and compensation for physical, mental, cognitive, perceptual, neuromuscular, behavioral skills, and sensory dysfunctions in geriatric settings. Frames of reference, assessment techniques, evidence-based practice, treatment techniques, intervention and occupational justice are discussed.
