OTA-255 Adult Rehabilitation

This course will provide evidence-based knowledge using frames of references and theories to develop occupational therapy strategies, intervention techniques, discharge planning, and advocacy that impact the adult population. Assessments, screenings, and observation strategies will be used to explore occupational performance skills that impacts persons, groups, or populations. Students will explore physical, neurological, cognitive, perceptual, sensory, and psychosocial areas relevant to occupation-based activities and interventions. Lab activities will focus on knowledge and clinical reasoning to safely and effectively use modalities, splints, equipment, and environmental adaptations that support participation. Students will develop professional skills to effectively communicate with patients/families, caregivers, clinicians, and others. Community experiences will expose students to the roles and responsibilities of the OTA.
