OTA-296 Fieldwork IIB

This is an off-campus, supervised experience at the student's assigned setting to prepare the student to become an entry level occupational therapy assistant. Utilizing observations skills, practical skills, assessments, and knowledge of promotion, prevention and intervention related to occupational therapy strategies for individuals throughout the life span that have physical and/or psychosocial limitations that affect their performance in areas of occupation (ADL, IADL, education, play, work, leisure, sleep and social participation) the student will prepare to become a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. Assignments, which may be required to be conducted depend on the specific fieldwork educator's or site requirements. Assignments will vary but will focus on utilizing your observations skills and therapeutic use of self while applying skills necessary to prevent, remediate, compensate, adapt, and promote participation in occupational performance tasks. In addition, effective communication (verbal and written) with patients/families, caregivers, clinicians, and other related staff will be required. Through hands-on experiences, assignments, discussions, simulations, and activities/interventions, students will learn the role and responsibilities of the OTA in hospital, schools, daycares, residential, clinical, transitional, and other related settings.
